La Smart Galerie LX Factory , was born in Paris, founded by Gusttavo Borges, and belongs to the Paris 75 Image Production group. Two years ago, the gallery left Paris to settle permanently in Lisbon , physically rooted in LX Factory, yet operating globally through its online presence. Today it functions as an incubator for projects and artists: Paris 75 Image identifies opportunities, negotiates partnerships and contracts, and shapes strategy; La Smart Galerie gives physical and commercial form to ideas that have already been thought through.
Why LX Factory?
Before it was a destination, LX Factory was a factory. In 1846, the Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonense installed one of Lisbon’s largest industrial complexes there, in the heart of Alcântara. It passed through textiles, printing houses and decades of abandonment, until 2008, when the space was reborn not as a replica of the past, but as new territory, where production gave way to creation.
Today, LX Factory has become an emblematic site in the city of Lisbon, recognised worldwide and turned into an obligatory passage for visitors and residents alike. It is a crossroads of cultures and tribes, speaking different languages, yet united by one common measure of interest: art, the one language everyone understands.
HOW LA SMART GALERIE LX FACTORY BECAME O GRINGO’S HOME ?
Things began, in a way, organically. The public decided first growing interest in the artist, fuelled by the exhibition “Esperança Além do Horizonte” at the National Museum of Azulejo in June 2022, created a demand that needed a permanent home. La Smart Galerie became, in that sense, a natural extension of the museum: not a repetition of the exhibition, but its living continuation, following the technical evolution and the historical foundations the artist kept weaving into his universe from traditional azulejo to the references running through each piece, from fine art paper to resin, from sculpture to 3D printing.
Today, the gallery functions as a space of continuity: it organises azulejo painting workshops, hosts direct encounters between the artist and his public , including sessions with the residents of Cercima, an institution O Gringo has supported for more than four years , and ensures the international projection of the works, each one blockchain-certified through Verisart, a guarantee of authenticity that turns the collector into an investor.
THE ARTIST O GRINGO LX FACTORY AND HIS INTERNATIONAL GALLERIES
O Gringo maintains his permanent atelier in Portugal, open year-round, alongside a regular programme at La Smart Galerie, at LX Factory in Lisbon yet his work does not stop there. The same trajectory that led him to the National Museum of Azulejo also brought him to Place des Vosges, in Paris, with the exhibition “Émotions,” and to Art Basel Week in Miami, where his hybrid language azulejo, hand-sculpted ceramics, fine art paper, wood, resin and 3D printing found a new audience. Presentations followed in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and San Francisco, alongside the 300 m² solo exhibition that marked the opening of the Capital of Culture in Aveiro and Ovar.
This international network remains active: O Gringo is currently part of the exhibition “Uma História em Aberto,” in Tavira, in partnership with the National Museum of Azulejo, with a further collaboration already planned for Braga. La Smart Galerie thus functions as the fixed base of an artist in permanent circulation — the point of departure and return for a path that crosses continents without ever losing its connection to Lisbon.
PARIS 75 IMAGE
Paris 75 Image is a production, investment and management agency in art, now launching its 360º project.
