O Gringo and Cercima marks the beginning of a long-term cultural and humanitarian partnership dedicated to promoting art, inclusion, and social responsibility. Through this initiative, O Gringo artist, together with Paris 75 Image and La Smart Galerie, supports the work developed by Cercima while reinforcing the international visibility of projects connected to O Gringo LX Factory and the contemporary artistic research surrounding O Gringo azulejo, one of the artist’s most recognized creative identities.

Some causes go far beyond art.
For more than three years, O Gringo has maintained an ongoing collaboration with CERCIMA – Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Citizens with Disabilities of Montijo and Alcochete, dedicating not only his artistic talent but also his time, experience and commitment to improving the lives of people who need support the most.
More than creating artworks, this partnership represents a genuine human commitment.
Throughout these years, O Gringo has participated in fundraising initiatives, educational activities and creative workshops developed together with CERCIMA’s multidisciplinary team, believing that art can become a powerful instrument for inclusion, self-esteem and personal development.

Há mais de três anos, O Gringo desenvolve uma colaboração contínua com a CERCIMA – Cooperativa para a Educação e Reabilitação de Cidadãos Inadaptados de Montijo e Alcochete, colocando o seu talento, a sua experiência e, sobretudo, o seu tempo ao serviço de uma instituição que diariamente transforma vidas.
Muito além da criação artística, esta parceria representa um compromisso humano. The National Tile Museum welcomed a remarkable inclusion project
In September 2023, during the exhibition “Hope Beyond the Horizon” at the National Tile Museum (Museu Nacional do Azulejo) in Lisbon, one of the most meaningful moments of this partnership took place.
Supported by the exhibition curator Dr. Dora Fernandes and approved by the Museum’s Director at the time, Dr. Alexandre Nobre Pais, the museum welcomed participants from the CERCIMA Montijo/Alcochete Unit for a unique artistic experience.
The objective was never simply to teach painting techniques.
The real purpose was to allow every participant to experience the joy of becoming an artist.

Em setembro de 2023, durante a exposição “Esperança Além do Horizonte”, apresentada no Museu Nacional do Azulejo, realizou-se uma das iniciativas mais marcantes desta parceria.
Com o apoio da curadora Dra. Dora Fernandes e a aprovação do então Diretor do Museu Nacional do Azulejo, Dr. Alexandre Nobre Pais, a instituição recebeu um grupo de utentes da CERCIMA – Unidade de Montijo/Alcochete para uma experiência artística completamente diferente.
O objetivo nunca foi apenas ensinar pintura.
O objetivo era permitir que cada participante se sentisse artista por um dia.

More than financial support
O Gringo’s involvement has never been limited to fundraising.
He regularly dedicates his time to educational activities organized together with CERCIMA’s professionals, encouraging creativity, communication, confidence and artistic expression.
These workshops demonstrate that art is capable of creating opportunities that extend far beyond museums and galleries.

Every tile tells a personal story
During the workshop, O Gringo introduced participants to the history of Portuguese tiles and guided each person through the creative process of painting their own ceramic tile.
Every drawing was unique.
Every brushstroke reflected a different personality.
Every tile became a testimony of creativity, courage and individuality.
Supported by CERCIMA’s professional team, every participant was encouraged to express themselves freely in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
It was much more than an art workshop.
It was a day filled with confidence, smiles and human connection.
Um workshop onde cada azulejo conta uma história
Ao longo do workshop, O Gringo apresentou aos participantes a história do azulejo português, explicou a importância desta tradição centenária e acompanhou cada pessoa na criação do seu próprio azulejo.
Cada desenho nasceu de forma livre.
Cada pincelada refletiu uma personalidade.
Cada azulejo tornou-se um testemunho da criatividade de quem, muitas vezes, enfrenta diariamente desafios que a maioria das pessoas nunca conhecerá.
A equipa técnica da CERCIMA acompanhou toda a atividade, garantindo que cada participante pudesse viver esta experiência de forma segura, tranquila e enriquecedora.
Foi um dia de aprendizagem.
Mas, acima de tudo, foi um dia de felicidade.

The artwork continued long after the workshop
When the workshop ended, the project was only beginning.
O Gringo carefully collected every painted tile created during the activity.
Back in his studio, he transformed each individual piece into one collective contemporary artwork while preserving the identity and artistic contribution of every participant.
The final composition became a symbol of unity, inclusion and hope.
Every tile remains visible.
Every participant remains part of the artwork forever.

Quando o workshop terminou, a história estava apenas a começar.
Todos os azulejos produzidos durante esta atividade foram cuidadosamente recolhidos por O Gringo.
No seu atelier, o artista iniciou um novo processo criativo.
Sem alterar a identidade de cada participante, reuniu todas aquelas peças numa única composição artística, transformando dezenas de trabalhos individuais numa grande obra coletiva.
Uma obra onde cada azulejo continua a representar o seu autor.
Uma obra onde todos são igualmente importantes.
Art that continues changing lives
The original artwork is now presented through La Smart Galerie, located in Lisbon’s internationally renowned LX Factory.
To expand the fundraising initiative, a limited edition of official fine art prints was also produced.
Both the original artwork and the prints are available through the gallery and its online platforms.
From the very beginning, one principle guided the entire project.
One hundred percent of the proceeds are donated directly to CERCIMA.
No commissions.
No financial benefit for the artist.
Only solidarity.
Uma obra que continua a ajudar pessoas
A obra original encontra-se disponível através da La Smart Galerie, na LX Factory, em Lisboa.
Para que esta iniciativa pudesse alcançar ainda mais pessoas, foram igualmente produzidos prints oficiais, disponíveis para aquisição tanto na galeria como através dos canais online.
O princípio foi definido desde o primeiro momento.
A totalidade das receitas obtidas com estas vendas é destinada à CERCIMA.
Sem exceções.
Sem fins lucrativos.

Building a home for those who no longer have one
The funds generated through this initiative help support one of CERCIMA’s most important ongoing projects.
The construction of a new residential facility beside the institution’s current support center.
Its mission is deeply human.
To provide a permanent home for adults with disabilities whose parents or close family members are no longer alive or able to care for them due to advanced age.
It is a project designed not only for today but for the future.
Because inclusion must continue throughout an entire lifetime.
Construir uma casa para quem já não tem família
Os fundos angariados apoiam um dos projetos mais importantes atualmente desenvolvidos pela instituição.
A construção de um novo lar junto à atual unidade da CERCIMA.
Este espaço destina-se a acolher utentes que, com o passar dos anos, perderam os seus pais ou familiares mais próximos e deixaram de ter uma estrutura familiar capaz de lhes garantir proteção, estabilidade e qualidade de vida.
É um projeto que olha para o futuro.
Porque a deficiência não desaparece quando os pais envelhecem.
Pelo contrário.
É precisamente nesse momento que estas pessoas necessitam ainda mais do apoio da sociedade.

CERCIMA is part of O Gringo’s story
The relationship between O Gringo and CERCIMA became such an important chapter in the artist’s journey that it was also included in his book “Azulejo Vivo”, published following the exhibition at the National Tile Museum.
During the official book presentation at FNAC, CERCIMA was represented by Dr. Carla Alexandra Mendonça Moreira, who delivered the opening speech, highlighting the importance of this long-term partnership and its impact on the institution and its beneficiaries.
It was another meaningful moment demonstrating that art and social responsibility can move forward together.
